One of the hardest animals to hunt in the Adirondacks will be the Black Bear. These brutes operate in some of the densest forests in the USA. Many days will be complete without a sighting of this big game animal.
Weapons: This rather large prey is a must for a larger caliber rifle. My best choice would be a 30-06 or .308 centerfire rifle. However many bears have been killed by a 12 gauge shotgun. Many bears have been lost during the archery season due to the animals thick fur. My choice of weapon would be a firearm.
Weather: The season starts in mid September so the weather will be warm to start., Once Autumn sets in the weather will be cooler and a good jacket will be needed. And of course due to the territory being hunted, the Adirondacks a bit of snow will probably greet you on some days.
Safety Tip: A good compass or gps would be recommended as you will be in the mountains of NY state andit can be a long night if you cannot find your camp after the day is done.
